Crime....

Let me just ask, what the hell is going on in the city right now? The last two weeks or so have been full of home invasions, shootings, and robberies. Seriously...it's beginning to feel like I'm living in Detroit (sorry SR). What is the cause of all this drama? Beats the hell out of me...all that I know is that I work in a less than opportunistic area. The area is not that bad as far a bad parts of town go, but I probably wouldn't live over there. What is strange about Indianapolis is how quickly bad turns to good.

The quality of life changes so fast its really absurd. You can go from run down dilapidated housing to nice well kept old homes in a period of a two blocks. It's pretty strange though, during the late 80's early 90's all the people were leaving downtown for the suburbs, now people want to live downtown. There has been quite a revival downtown. That doesn't mean the suburbs aren't growing. They are, there is huge growth outside of the I-465 corridor, I just am intrigued by the downtown revival. Take for example Fall Creek Place.
The area of town a decade ago was the wild wild near north side. It was dangerous and there was hardly and property value to speak of. Well, the city of Indianapolis had an ingenious plan, the would rehabilitate the area yet keep the same feel of the area. Usually when this rehabilitation is done it means bulldoze everything and build condos. Not in this case. What they did was bulldoze the crap, and keep the best. They moved whole houses to new lots They paid people to leave or gave them hefty discounts to stay. They also built new houses in the same architectural style of the old houses. They improved the road, put in new sidewalks, formed a Homeowners Association. The people that have stayed are enjoying property values two to three times what they were a few years ago. If you drive through the area today you think that it is a well kept old neighborhood, you would never guess what it was like 10 years ago.

So, you now have this really nice bubble in the downtown area. That is all well and good, but it is a bubble. You literally stray one block outside of the rehabbed area and it's back to the wild wild near north side. So strange how it is... Oh well, I still love Indy!

Last night I saw the movie Jarhead...I thought that it wasn't very good. I'll be reviewing it for my little review site. GP, MM and myself ate at Texas Roadhouse last night, it was yummy! I love a good steak. I also had a baked sweet potato, I'm really starting to like those, but I still love my loaded baked potato!

This morning I changed the oil in my car, it was a little overdue, so it was good to get it done. It's such a pain in the ass to do on my car because I need to take a cowling off as well as use a torque wrench. I was also planning on rotating my tires, but I don't have a socket large enough for the nuts, so I'll have to do that later. I also need to pick up a new air filter.

I'm thinking about either making a turkey sandwich for lunch, or going to Chipotle. I'm thinking that I'll just make the sandwich since I'm feeling lazy. I'm not sure what time we will be leaving to go north, probably 4-5 or so. It will be nice to see family tomorrow. It's been over a month.

So yesterday was Veterans Day. Did you thank a vet? I sure hope so. The average age of veterans that have been in combat is getting lower and lower. It is no longer people that are 50-70+ years old, there are 18 and 19 year olds out there.

It looks like it's nearly official....al Quida was behind the bombing in Jordan. That really just goes to show the mentality of them. They did nothing but strengthen the resolve of the Jordanian people to stop terrorism. I have nothing against Islam, I believe that it is a religion as right and proper as any other religion out there...it is just this extreme jihadist Islam that is so out of line.

Wow, this has been a post that is all over the place...that's what I get for going into this without a clear idea of what I was going to write about...oh well. This is like a smorgasbord post...a little bit for everyone.
