Here comes the holidays!
I'm in a really damn good mood right now! I'm in such a good mood, that I'd do back flips if I wouldn't break my damn neck! Lets go over the reasons why..First, work is going pretty good. I'm a little back logged with my work load, but that's ok. I'm also using my first personal day in 6 months or so on Friday. Thus, I'm going to manage a 4 day weekend, and boy do I need it. I was hoping for a little vacation when I got back from Washington, but that never materialized. So, with when Thanksgiving falls, and the day off on Friday I'll get a couple days off. That's great! I should take the Monday after Christmas off also...but I won't push my luck!
Second reason for the good mood, is that there is some snow in the forecast. Yeah, Amanda will kill me for saying it, but I love snowfalls and snowstorms and all that jazz. I hate the subsequent days after the snowstorms, but I love the snowstorm itself. I absolutely love waking up in the middle of the night every couple hours and peeking out the window and seeing how much snow is on the ground. It's seriously almost as exciting as the night before Christmas. Then, in the morning when you wake everything is covering in this fresh snowfall and just looks so great. The air is clean and crisp with the snow covering everything. Plus, the weather following the snowstorm is generally pretty nice with sun and bright skies.
Third reason for the good mood is that I bought a new watch last night. Nothing too fancy, but I like it. My dressy watch died the other day, and I figured it was a good opportunity to pick up a new watch. The watch that I decided on is a Skagen, it's some company in Denmark. It's titanium case and band with a gun metal face. It's amazingly light because it's made from titanium and looks pretty sharp. Hopefully it holds up because I beat the hell out of watches. Amanda seems to like, she was really shocked by how little it really weighed.
Fourth reason for the good mood is that I'm excited for the holiday weekend. Yeah, I've already talked about this, but that was about having time off...this is about the weekend itself! I'm excited to see family and friends and eat some good food. Family gatherings are entirely too infrequent, so it's nice to see everyone.
Amanda is starting to look more and more at houses. She is really getting excited about being grown up and getting a house. She has been swarming all over floor plans and stuff finding a builder that has plans that she likes. We've found some pretty neat ones...I just can't wait to shut the door on apartment life for good!
I'm not sure how many people on here are big CSI fans, but I am. I watch all the CSI's, but probably enjoy the original cast the most still. Did anyone watch the episode last week, it was part 2 of the 2 part series. Well, it was probably the saddest episode ever and about brought me to tears. Yeah, I had a big sensitive guy moment...it is possible, I'm not always an ass hole.
Speaking of TV, it looks like there is a new episode of LOST tomorrow! Hell yeah! I love that show, unfortunately, Amanda hates it. Too bad, she doesn't know what she is missing...the best show on TV hands down.

They didn't mind the wait -- more than 24 hours in some cases. They could deal with the biting cold and the occasional smattering of rain throughout the night.

Anyone see this? That article just didn't give me a good vibe for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I want an Xbox360, and I would have been in line if I had the money for it right now...but that article just doesn't seem right. First you have my ex-employer acting the exact reason why I could no longer stand working for them...always trying to string every last dime from their customers. Hell, their president said that they don't care about people that only buy the sale stuff from them, and I'm sure that these people fit into that category. They aren't buying all the bells and whistles with their systems and that is where the company makes all their money. They aren't making a dime off of the game system itself, but they will make 30-50% profit off of the accessories (cables, remotes, controls, memory cards), $5-10 a game, and probably $30 on every insurance plan sold. That teenager that saved up the exact money to buy the system did not do anything for the company. Ex-employer, your day is coming...believe me. There is a reason why I've pumped nary a dime since quitting back in '03.
The second thing that really bothers me about this article is the emphasis on these people standing in the rain and the cold, and distraught how they couldn't go to their car and warm up. It's no secret that I have am not fond of people with "will work for food signs" or the aggressive solicitors ("I need money for a bus ticket to see my babies momma", "I need money for gas", etc). If you want money for alcohol or crack just ask me for that...I'm still going to say no, but at least you aren't jacking up your karma lying to everybody. While I do have the disdain for that type of activities, I do realize that there are people that legitimately need assistance. There are probably hundreds of people in Indianapolis sleeping in the cold tonight around the city. They aren't sleeping outside in the cold for a stupid game system. Does the Indy star and it's liberal bias give a damn about that?
Two nights ago when we were downtown to see "Weatherman", Amanda asked me about the blankets that she saw stuffed into the support columns of the Union Station platform. There is wool blankets in there for the homeless to use this time of year. It is damn cold outside, and there is not enough shelters for everyone...it's just a sad reality... This brings me back to the Star. Were they wrong in their article? No, it was news...but did it justify the headlines on the website and on the front page of tomorrows issue? No, it did not. Why did this turn me sour? Who knows...maybe I'm just pissed that I didn't get one!
Ok, that's enough for tonight...this "Old Man" needs to go to bed...after I take my Metemucil, soak my dentures, and put my depends on.
