Honorable Discharge
Where does the week go? Tomorrow is already Friday...not like I'm complaining or anything, but this week flew by! Today was a busy day at work, but nothing particular stood out. I did get lunch at Penn Station and it was pretty good. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu...it was most excellent (and free!). I'd get it again. Free lunches...a definite fringe benefit of work.Speaking of free food and work, in December we have our Christmas party. That should be fun/interesting, since I've never been to a company party before. My only idea going into the night is from what I see in movies...like the opening scenes of Die Hard. Do people really drink excessively and make fools of themselves. I'd say yes...anytime there is exuberant amounts of alcohol (probably at the companies expense) there is going to be some drama. There probably won't be too much since there is only a handful of people going...so that is probably a good thing.
I also have the annual National Guard holiday meal at the beginning of the month. This will be my first time at one of these as an officer. So, that means that I'll be dragging Amanda along with me (sorry Amanda!). I also have to give a brief to the family members that are in attendance, so that should be fun. I'm also going to cook a ham for the event, so that is something new...I've never cooked a Ham before...might have to call mom or grandma about how to do it, or I could just do what I always do, just look it up on the Internet.
A couple weeks ago I bought tickets to Santa Slam. This will be the third year in a row that Amanda and I are going to it. This year the lineup isn't as good as it has been in the past, but it should still be a fun night. I had my days all messed up and didn't get 4th row seats again, but we are still in the front section. Hell, what am I complaining about...at least Clay Aiken is not there!
This morning I was hard at work (seriously!) and the phone rang, it was Amanda. She said there was a problem...and after a few seconds she announced that she was disposing of some dog droppings and flushed it down. She said that a few minutes (yes, minutes) later she heard water and went in to see an inch of water on the bathroom floor!!! Yikes, what a mess. She didn't know what to do, she had already called maintenance and tied the float up to stop the water (good thinking Amanda, did I show you that trick?). She had no idea how to get all the water up since there was a lot. I told her to use the mop in the garage. She got it cleaned up (unsure of the difficulty). Well, my bathroom is kind of a mess still, but I'm not upset with her, she was busy working on a presentation for school and didn't really need all the extra drama in the mornings when she was already on a pretty tight schedule.
Guess what I got in the mail today? Nope, not that! I got a package from the military department of Indiana. It was the states version of a DD214 and a certificate saying that I'm honorably discharged from the Army. LOL, that's hilarious! So, I guess they discharged me at 2359 on Aug 10th, and then I commissioned a day or two after that. So, I was technically a civilian for a day or so! So, now I have a nice little certificate to go along with my other certificates. Also, after looking over the DD214 it appears that I'm authorized a couple rewards that I didn't think that I was authorized. I had questions about whether I could wear them or not, and the answer is yes. This packet put the closure on my enlisted time, almost exactly 5 1/2 years.
I really should do some cleaning...or at least some picking up. I don't really want to though....but I should! I also need to take a load of trash over the compactor. Uggg, the trash dilemma of this place...it is one sore spot for me. I hate the garbage situation, it really is the worse of anyplace that I have ever lived. Why in the heck do they only have one dumpster for all these residents? Everyone hates it....not to mention it is one thing that they strategically don't mention when the show you the place. I just cannot wait to get a real house and not have to put up with apartment BS. Hopefully a little over a year from now we will be moving into our own house and putting apartment far into out past!
I'm out.
